MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's soccer team will head outdoors on March 29 and host Horizon League foes, Wis.-Milwaukee, Green Bay and 2007 NCAA Tournament participant Loyola in round-robin play. All games will be played on the turf field at Valley Fields beginning at 9 a.m. The Golden Eagles' first opponent will be the Panthers at 9 a.m. Marquette will take a three-hour break before facing Green Bay and Loyola at 1:30 and 3 p.m., respectively. All games will feature full squads (11 v 11) with each half being 35 minutes in duration, except for MU's game versus Loyola in which it will be two 30 minute halves. The Golden Eagles will use their 24-woman roster during the spring season to prepare for the upcoming fall championship season. Newcomer Danielle Martens from Lee's Summit, Mo., and sophomore transfers Kelly Wepking and Chelsey Turner will don blue and gold for the first time of their Marquette careers. "The team is ready for the start of our 'mini' spring season," said head coach Markus Roeders. "Ten games in four consecutive weeks will be a great test and stepping stone as we prepare for the fall. We are excited and look to measure ourselves against Horizon League opponents on Saturday. Our team has been working hard throughout the spring and we will use these games to get better and experiment with different line-ups, although winning is still an important aspect for our players." Marquette defeated Green Bay, 2-0, and tied Wis.-Milwaukee, 0-0, in double overtime during the 2007 regular season. The Golden Eagles last played Loyola during the 2005 season and downed the Ramblers, 2-0.
Marquette will next play in Durham, N.C., on April 5 against two NCAA Tournament teams from a season ago in Duke and UNC Greensboro. Saturday, March 29 Game Schedule 9 a.m. - Marquette vs UW Milwaukee * All games will be 2 x 35 minutes except the Marquette/Loyola match (2 x 30 min) |
