Feb. 26, 2008
MILWAUKEE - Marquette women's soccer head coach Markus Roeders has announced its signing class of 2008. Five student-athletes have committed to continue their academic and athletic undertakings at Marquette University starting in the fall. The class boasts teammates from reigning national club champions, plentiful Olympic Development experience and young women who truly emulate the title "student-athlete." The incoming class includes Kerry McBride (Elm Grove, Wis.), Lindsey Page (Alsip, Ill.), Lisa Philbin (Lansdale, Pa.), Rachael Sloan (Elk Grove, Ill.) and Erin Tedesco (Downers Grove, Ill.). They join incoming freshman Danielle Martens, and University of Minnesota transfers Chelsey Turner and Kelly Wepking who began classes and training for the 2008 spring season. "We are thrilled that these five young women have made a commitment to join Marquette University and our program," said head coach Markus Roeders. "They are very talented and have tremendous potential. All of them have played at a high level with their club teams and enjoyed much success. We didn't recruit them position specific since they are well rounded to excel in many areas of the field. They are eager to be at Marquette, they have a strong desire to excel and will help our squad starting this fall." Kerry McBride

High School Honors Lindsey Page on why she chose Marquette: "I chose Marquette because of the main word the soccer program revolves around - 'family.' When I first visited Marquette, I observed and felt such a positive energy from the team, coaches and staff. Everyone made me feel like I was a part of something really special, just like how I feel when I am with my family at home. Also, I love Milwaukee and the Marquette campus. It's a gorgeous campus in a fun-filled city and it was just what I was looking for."

Lisa Philbin on why she chose Marquette: "Marquette University is the closest thing to perfect I found in a college. The Jesuit academic tradition provides a concentrated curriculum that will challenge and shape me into the successful person I dream of becoming. On the soccer field, Marquette is a proud member of the BIG EAST conference, which matches them up against the most competitive teams around. I am confident that as a member of the Golden Eagles I will learn and develop as an athlete and a person along side talented players and experienced coaches. The most important reason that I chose Marquette is because of the one of a kind family atmosphere that it offers. Out of all the schools that I looked at, MU is the only one that gave me the feeling of home. I cannot wait to become part of the pride, tradition, family and excellence that is Marquette."

Sloan on why she chose Marquette: "It wasn't until I visited Marquette that I knew I was experiencing that instant connection that people always talk about. The feeling a student gets when they find their 'perfect fit' in a school. I absolutely fell in love with the academic environment, lively student body, and the excitement of the athletic opportunities. I am thrilled to become a part of the school spirit here at Marquette as a student-athlete. I am so excited to share this incredible experience with my coaches and teammates as part of the women's soccer program."

Erin Tedesco on why she chose Marquette: "I was initially drawn to Marquette by the outstanding soccer program. I then began to talk to the coaches more and more and realized that I really wanted to play for them. I realized that Marquette is not only a great soccer school but also a wonderful academic school. I know that I am extremely lucky to not only be playing for one of the top soccer schools in the nation, but also be receiving a good education. I am really looking forward to next year and hoping to go to the NCAA tournament." |
