BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The men's and women's Marquette Cross Country teams ran a fantastic race at the NCAA?Great Lakes Regional held at the Indiana Cross Country Course in Bloomington, Ind. on Saturday afternoon.

Each squad improved upon its regional ranking as the women finished in fourth place with 192 points, behind Michigan State, Michigan and Wisconsin. The men improved upon a 10th ranking, finishing eighth with 271 points.

"Both teams ran brilliantly," head coach Mike Nelson said. "I am very, very pleased with how both teams ran, I couldn't be any happier. It was a great overall team effort on both sides."

Anna Weber led the women with a 13th place finish, running the 6K in 21:29.46. Cassie Peller was 19th running a 21:34.63 and Jayne Grebinski ran a 21:40.72, for 22nd place. Kaitlyn Chambers finished 54th (22:24.95), while Kristin Pelzel ran a 23:03.95, finishing 96th. Rounding out the women was Dani Owen (23:04.16), and Amanda Beggs (23:19.92).

The Marquette men's squad was led by Scott Mueller, who ran the 10K in 31:43.21, finishing 28th. Kyle Saginus was right behind him in 29th running the course in 31:43.39. Nick Szczech took 38th running a 31:52.36, while Brice Cleland ran a 32:41.91 for 70th. Rounding out the men were Peter Bolgert (33.27.82), Cody Miles (33.48.30) and Mark Kopecki (34.16.13

 

 

The Golden Eagles will wait and see if any individuals qualified for the NCAA?Championships. Final results will be tallied once all regions results are posted.

"Overall it was an awesome day for Marquette cross country. I am very pleased with all of the individuals," added Nelson.
