The Marquette track and field team wrapped up solid performances in the exciting final day of competition at the BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships held at The Armory in New York City.

"I was really proud of the way everyone competed this weekend. We had some very good performances," head coach Bert Rogers said. "The conference meet is always a good chance to see where we are at, and where we need to get better and what we need to work on. I am looking forward to taking the lessons we learned and build on that for the outdoor season."

The Golden Eagles' top finisher was senior Cassie Peller who ran 4:50.46 in the mile, to earn second place.

The women's 4x800 relay team of Peller, sophomore Katlin Millin, senior Kaitlyn Chambers and junior Sarah Verdoliva turned in a record-breaking performance of 8:59.14 and finished third.

Verdoliva scored points for MU in the 800m finals, crossing the line in a personal-best 2:13.81, the fifth fastest time in Marquette history.

Sophomore Erynn James also scored for the Golden Eagles clearing 5-7 in the high jump. James earned sixth place for her performance.

In the throws, sophomore Rachel Thiel turned in a strong shot put performance, throwing a personal-best 46-11.5, nearly three feet farther than her previous best, to take sixth place and score for Marquette.

The Golden Eagle women finished 12th in the team performance.

Senior Tom Sage scored points for the Golden Eagles earning a personal-best 4,871 points in the heptathlon to finish in eighth place and crossed the line in the 1,000m in a personal-best 2:46.09.
